My Interests

As you may expect, I'm very interested in journalism and the media in general! Some of my particular areas of interest when it comes to reporting are technology, politics, and the arts. I'll always jump at the chance to explore any of those topics!

Favorite Music

My number one interest in life is nu metal, the heavy metal subgenre that was popular mostly in the 1990s and early 2000s.

Three Dollar Bill, Y'all $, Limp Bizkit's first album, is a long-time favorite of mine. It fuses hip hop and funk with punk and metal to make for a frantic, energetic sound I feel can be cathartic. I also love all the album art, done by the band's guitarist Wes Borland.

Introduction to Mayhem by Primer 55 is an album that more recently entered my roster of favorites, although it was released in 2000. Like Three Dollar Bill, Y'all $, this is an example of the more rap-forward side of nu metal, as opposed to many other bands that focus more on a metal-forward sound with hip hop influences. This is a no-skips album for me, even with several interludes scattered across the tracklist.

One non-nu metal favorite is Skinty Fia by Fontaines D.C. This is a beautifully moody modern rock album that explores the band's Irish identity and its relationship with both personal grief and structural imperialist disadvantages. That might sound a little pretentious, but it's also a catchy collection of songs that are easy to hum along to. It's not often that newer rock bands catch my ear, so it's remarkable that Fontaines D.C. broke through the noise to become one of my favorites.
